Travel midwifery can take you anywhere. And when you’re not working it’s not only time to relax but also to get out and explore your new surroundings. If you’re in Hobart, Tasmania and you don’t have a car, there are still plenty of things to see and do in the city. With that said, here are my recommendations for the best things to do in Hobart:
- Have a wander around the Botanical Gardens and stop for a glass of wine at the café.
- Take a walk along the Hobart Rivulet, visit the Female Factory, and then walk on to Cascade Brewery for a drink and a snack.
- Admire the view from the top of Mount Wellington. Go on one of the many walks and grab a hot chocolate from the Lost Freight Cafe and on the walk down stop in at The Fern Tree Tavern.
- Check out the Shot Tower, then do the walk to Kingston Beach, if the sun’s out have a dip, then drop into Robbie Brown’s after for a well-deserved bevvy.
- Have a wander round Battery Point, grab some takeout from Jackman & McRoss and enjoy it sitting on the grass (or park bench) at Arthur Circus.
- For those rainy days, have a round of mini-golf at Putters in Moonah.
- Sunny day – spend it at Seven Mile Beach or Clifton Beach.
If you don’t have a car, there’s plenty of alternative options for getting around Hobart
- Walking – there’s a fair few hills, so wear comfortable walking shoes.
- Public transport – there are buses which cover a fair amount of the city. You get a GreenCard and load credit on it to swipe whenever you get on the bus.
- E scooters – these are all over the city, there are a few no-scoot zones, but overall they’re pretty handy when you can’t be bothered walking a few blocks.
- Uber/taxi – you know the deal.
- Bike – buy a cheap bike (K-mart for the win).
- Find a friend with a car.
Enjoy – this is just a snippet of what there is to experience in Hobart. You can read my other post about working in Tasmania here.
